Grade 2: Triplets






Look at the extract above. If a composer wants to put 3 equal notes in the space, he can do so by putting a triplet. The triplet tells you to “play 3 in the space of 2”.



In the example, the missing beat was one crotchet (or two quaver beats).

The three quavers, with a “3” in brackets, are three quavers played in the space of two.



In the extract above, the triplets tell us that there are three crotchets played in the space of two.



Triplets do not all need to be notes. The following are correct too.
