Grade 4: Intervals
Look at the C major and C minor scale below:

C major
In the C major scale, the third note of the scale is E. We say that the interval, or the gap, from C to E is a major 3rd. A major third is four semitones higher.
C minor
In the C minor scale, the third note of the scale is E-flat. We say that the interval, or the gap, from C to E-flat is a minor 3rd. A minor third is three semitones higher.

In the C major and C minor scales, the fourth and fifth notes are the same. We call these intervals perfect 4ths and perfect 5ths.
