Music Theory Online

I created this blog for my piano students to answer any questions they might have about the music they play. Of course, anyone else who wishes to understand music theory better will also benefit.

I've structured the information such that it follows the graded music theory syllabus of the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). I did this so that readers of this blog could go on to take ABRSM Music Theory exams if they wished to obtain music qualifications.

Practice test papers which I have written are available for download.

I've restricted myself to material from grades 1 - 5 because I feel the information for these grades can be sufficiently explained online. At the higher grades (grade 6 and above), music theory, especially, four-part writing, is too complex to be explained within the confines of this blog, and is best learnt with a teacher. You can find a list of teachers here, as well as music stores who sell useful theory books and materials.
